Duluth is a thin sliver of light extending along Lake Superior

It is a city on a hill extending from the top of the bluff down to the shoreline for 26 miles. The city has an industrial feel in the downtown that quickly gives way to residential areas, many with stunning views of the lake. I was there in mid November to visit my dear friend Jen & Cheong Soon and their amazing children. The weather was pleasantly cool in California when I left but literally freezing when I arrived in Duluth. The temperature stayed well below freezing. We had a chance to visit the shore, see surfers on the frigid lake, eat great food and visit Gooseberry Falls. I definitely want to come back in the summer to hike and get out on the lake and see my friends again.

I learned that real Minnesotans like my friends pictured above eat ice cream even when it is below zero. When the ice cream is as good as it was in Duluth I tend to agree with them!
